E3 2017 – My Hopes, Dreams, and Everything in Betweams

I’ve read tons of these E3 wish lists, and read all kinds of crazy demands. But there’s something to be said about having completely unrealistic expectations. Ya gotta dream big, right?

Now I’m not a Playstation guy aside from the Vita which is dead as far as Sony’s concerned, and I don’t care about VR or Xbox exclusives, since I have a gaming PC, which pretty much rules out what Microsoft is planning. I am indifferent towards 4K, 8K, 128K, Special K, devices that spawn holograms that play your games for you, or any of that stuff. I care about good old-fashioned video games from companies that make good video games. Nintendo is closest. But I care deeply for a lot of the developers who will be doing their thing at E3.

New Elder Scrolls Game, On Switch

With Fallout 4 having come out recently (relatively speaking), might a new Elder Scrolls game be on the horizon? And may that horizon include the Nintendo Switch? Who knows! We know that Skyrim HD is coming out for the Switch at some point, and that will probably be announced as far as release date goes. Bethesda will be presenting their Bethesdaland thing on Sunday night, and they always have something great to announce. I loved Dishonored but lost interest in the series as my tastes simply changed to handhelds. But a new Elder Scrolls game would be sick, and having it portable will be incredible and a huge seller for the Switch.

Ultimate DOOM Package on the Switch

Know what would be really cool though? Some sort of Ultimate DOOM package on the Switch. Physical box, with all the vintage DOOM games, playable on the go!

That being said, I can’t actually see a violent shoot-em-up appearing on the family friendly Nintendo console, however, that’s what dreaming’s all about, right>

Earthbound Collection on Switch

They released Earthbound on the 3DS Virtual Console, and after all these years, maybe it’s finally time for Nintendo to bite the bullet and release a proper translation of the other two games in the series. I adored Earthbound, even though I was a super-late bloomer and played it for the first time last year. And while there is an unofficial English translation of Mother 3 out there, I would love to play it officially.

When you think of games that wouldn’t even require a marketing campaign, an Earthbound collection is definitely in that class. People would simply go crazy for it.

GameCube Game Reveals on Switch Virtual Console

Here’s one that I know a lot of people are waiting on – the official details on the Switch Virtual Console. Nintendo has been playing their cards close to the vest regarding the Virtual Console, and I think a lot of it has to do with feeling out the subscription market, and seeing if gamers would pay a monthly service charge for access to a library of legacy games. We’ll see how that pans out, because honestly I’m still not sure how I feel about it.

Either way, I want to play some old GameCube games in a convenient manner. There are simply too many great games that I missed on that system.

Morrowind on Switch

I’ve been holding out for a proper (official) remake of Morrowind for years now. Try as I might, I have simply been unable to finish that game, and I have tried many times. It just hits me as too bleak once you get to a certain point in the game, and I think it has to do with the dreary, low-resolution textures. I loved the vibe in Morrowind, Oblivion was perfection to me, and Skyrim was epic but left a little to be desired. But the real treasure, in my opinion, was Morrowind, and a re-release in the newer engine would be a really nice thing to have alongside the HD remake of Skyrim.

Kinda like this, but with Morrowind.

State of Decay 2

While the release date is already expected to drop at E3 this year, this one is going to be great. If you’ve never played the first State of Decay, this is one to look out for.

The initial installment was the source of over a hundred hours of entertainment for me, and actually got me into streaming for a few months. It’s a terrific open-world zombie survival game that showed how to do open-world zombie survival right, but given the advancement of game development since it’s launch in 2013, a followup has the potential to massively increase the depth, at least in a reasonable manner. Very much looking forward to this one, dropping on Windows and Xbox One.

Maybe even some zombie killing action on the Switch?

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Release Date

I’ve spent a great deal of time ranting and raving about Xenoblade Chronicles, and I’d really like to hear a release date. To be honest, I’d be blown away if they manage to make a 2017 release date, but personally I’d rather see it drop early 2018 to save myself the heart-break of not being able to play it right away if it comes late 2017!

Bloodbourne or Dark Souls Trilogy Switch Ports

I don’t remember when or where I heard some rumor about this, but I’d love to get the Dark Souls collection into my life. I was never able to successfully get into Dark Souls but I think if the Switch made it easier, I’d definitely buy a copy and jump right in.

I added Bloodbourne as well, since it’s almost always mentioned in every Dark Souls conversation. The aesthetic, overall vibe, and gameplay makes it look like a perfect game for me, yet without a PS4 I have tragically been unable to partake.

Final Fantasy VII Remake News

I don’t even have a PS4, but I’d love to get some recent news on this thing. I feel like I stopped hearing about it ages ago. While I assume it will be PS4-exclusive for quite some time, I can’t help but assume it will inevitably become a part of the Square Enix PC lineup. Final Fantasy VII is one of my favorite games of all time – and honestly one of the only Final Fantasy games that I’ve really liked – and just hearing about progress on the remake gets me all sorts of giddy.

New Yo-Kai Watch Game on Switch

We’re all looking forward to a Pokemon game on Switch, and while I’m certainly in that camp myself, I really enjoyed my time playing the original Yo-Kai Watch. While I haven’t played the second and likely never will due to a handheld backlog that prevents its presence, I’d love a more fleshed-out version of the next installment. Even though I just indirectly made one, I don’t like when Yo-Kai Watch is compared to Pokemon, because they really aren’t the same games at all. Sure they share some similarities, but overall they have very different vibes, and Yo-Kai Watch is much less linear and more encouraging of exploration than recent Pokemon games have been.

Level 5 is a Nintendo Switch partner, if that helps at all.

Totally do-able on the touch-screen Switch!

Half-Life 4

Every year, everyone wishes for Half-Life 3. Every year, no one gets Half-Life 3. To be honest, I’m kinda tired of wishing for it as well, so this year I’m just going to officially start wishing for Half-Life 4.

What’s on your wishlist for E3? Looking forward to any sure-things or just holding out on something you know probably won’t ever happen? Let’s hear about it in the comments!

I’m highly interested in what Nintendo will bring forth. I don’t want to get into dreams and wishes but really hope they continue with the success of the Switches early success and have a good show making people even more excited about what they are bringing.

    1. Yeahh hoping for the best and expecting the worst, that’s the best way to approach Nintendo, and E3 in general! Seems it’s another year of sequelitis so far.

That being said, IIRC you’re more of a Microsoft guy and State of Decay 2 is going to be sick. I had such a damn good time with the first State of Decay it might be the first PC game I buy in years!
